From the Bates’ Motel in Psycho to Bobby Ewing’s palatial Dallas home, the shower has been the star of many film and TV moments.
There is something about showers that inspires film and TV directors to conjure up scenes of lust, violence and humour. Now Mira Showers have come up with the definitive top ten list of the most popular showering scenes in history.
Recent horror flicks such as Dawn of the Dead and Final Destination rank highly, but don’t come anywhere near the number one classic scene from Psycho, where Janet Leigh is viciously stabbed in the shower. However, in both recent films, characters are dispatched in the shower – one is bitten by an undead in zombie flick Dawn of the Dead and a teenager from Final Destination is strangled with a shower cord.
For something more light-hearted, 80s teen classic Porkies has some famous nude shower scenes where male students have bored a hole through the changing room wall into the girls shower in order to spy on them.
Or think sexy and sophisticated for the shower scene in Tomorrow Never Dies, when James Bond and Wai Lin shower handcuffed together in a street in China.
Prison showers are also a recurring theme in TV and cinema, from Kurt Russell and Sly Stallone in Tango & Cash, to superstar Wyclef Jean passing the soap to a fellow inmate whilst promoting a mobile phone network.
The top ten shower scenes are:
- Bates Motel, Psycho
- Wyclef Jean, mobile phone commercial
- Bobby Ewing awakes, Dallas
- James Bond and Wai Lin, Tomorrow Never Dies
- Shower strangulation, Final Destination
- Shower zombie, Dawn of the Dead
- Girls’ changing rooms, Porkies
- Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone, Tango & Cash
- Goldie Hawn, Bird on a Wire
- Soldiers’ showering, Starship Troopers
