Launched in 1984, the Mira 88 is one of the milestones of the shower market. With the introduction of its successor, the Gem 88, Mira has brought an old favourite right up to date. Like its predecessor, the Gem 88 provides a simple manual temperature control and flow control that will work on gravity, pumped and pressurised hot water systems. Ceramic disc technology gives a smoother, easier feel to the controls and cuts out the risk of scale. A simple lever control with a ¼ turn action makes control simple and quick for the customer. Styling too has been brought up to date with a smooth contemporary finish. An all chrome version is available as well as neutral white.
The new styling of the Gem 88 means that it can be matched with the recently introduced Mira brassware to give a fully co-ordinated look to the bath or shower room.
Installer research showed that an easy retrofit to the Mira 88 was crucial and the Gem gives exactly that. It can be fitted onto the existing pipework without the need to change pipes or tiling. An innovative elbow mechanism allows connection to pipe centres varying between 149-154 mm and the valve caters for connections to rising, falling or rear entry pipework.
Liz Hazeldene, business manager for Mira mixers, said, “The Mira 88 helped develop the UK shower market. It offered simplicity and above all, year in year out reliability. No wonder it is still an installer’s favourite. The Gem 88 will maintain that tradition and give a modern look with even better showering performance for the customer”.
