New or even two- opportunities in the shower market
Roger Crabb – Head of marketing communications- Mira Showers
October 2004

Nearly 70% of homes in the UK have a shower. In many markets that might signal a mature market; one due for a slowdown. Do we see that in the shower market today? Not a bit of it.

Shower sales are moving ahead rapidly and this acceleration offers great opportunities all in the bathroom business. What’s behind it? We see two main reasons for this growth. Firstly, homeowners are becoming more shower conscious, they are taking more showers and just one shower in the home is becoming frustrating, especially in the early morning rush. Next, as a result of a house move or a bathroom makeover, the older shower is targeted for improvement. Customers want to join the power shower set. Whatever the trigger, your customers, in large numbers, are open to being sold a new shower, or perhaps, even two.

Mira have the products to make this easy. For example, if the trigger is a new combi boiler, now is the ideal time to tell customers that their combi can provide a stunning shower to one mixer and a very adequate shower to two being used at the same time. With the Fino or Excel mixers you can offer a thermostatic shower that has been designed to work with today’s modulating output boilers.

Homes with gravity fed hot water needn’t miss out either. A Mira universal shower pump, installed say in the airing cupboard, can provide a 24 litre/ minute delivery rate, enough to power up two showers simultaneously. So with a little alteration to the hot and cold feeds, you can offer a minor miracle and create a happy showering family.

Electric showers are another opportunity. For a family who has been making do with an old shower, say a 6kW model, a new Mira Sport at 10.8kW will deliver nearly twice the hot water and be a real eye-opener in all senses of the word.

Ok, selling the idea of an extra shower is not difficult. Often the problem in a small home is squeezing it in. That’s where the Mira enclosure and tray range comes into its own. With literally hundreds of size and configuration options it’s easy to find one that suits even the most challenging of spaces. For example, the Vista range includes a choice of doors that fold, slide inline or are corner opening, none of which take up floor space.

Once you are talking to, or working for, a customer, the rule should be sell ‘new or two’. It makes great business sense for you and you will end up with an even more delighted customer.
