How to Get the Wet Room Look on a Budget

Get the wet room look for a fraction of a price

The wet room look is as on-trend as it’s ever been. It looks modern, stylish, and it can add value to your house just like that. If the cost of refreshing your bathroom has been putting you off so far, here is how you can get the look for a fraction of the price.

Considerations

Before you embark on your wet room mission, there are a couple of things to think about:

1. Tanking

Your entire bathroom will need waterproofing - this process is known as ‘tanking’ and involves inserting a water resilient membrane beneath your tiles to lay the foundation for wet room flooring. Because it’s a bit more complex it can be more expensive, so it might be worth getting a quote before you start planning.

2. Selling

If you only have one bathroom and you’re considering stripping out your tub to settle your wet room cravings, bear in mind the lack of a bath can de-value your house.

Getting the look for less

If you want the best of both worlds - the statement finish of a wet room without the dent to your bank balance, a walk-in shower provides the perfect compromise.

What’s the difference?

Quite simply, installing a wet room makes your bathroom entirely open plan - which is why tanking is required, while walk-in showers have a low-profile shower tray and at least one glass screen - to stop the water spraying everywhere.

The latter still gives you that luxury look, easy accessibility, and minimal maintenance though, all the while ridding you of the need for the expensive flooring renovation. Win, win!

What you need

1. Walk-in shower enclosure

First things first, you need to decide on the look and feel of your walk-in shower enclosure. If you’re working with a smaller room walk-in showers are usually used as an alternative to a bath, if you’ve got the gift of space though, there’s no reason you can’t enjoy both.

Walk-in enclosures come in all shapes, sizes, styles, and prices, so take the time to find one that fits your budget and your vision.

2. Shower tray

Next up is your shower tray. Square, rectangle, pentagon, or quadrant. White or slate. 25mm, 40mm or 90mm high. When it comes to your tray, there’s plenty of choice out there to land your perfect piece. We have recently introduced our new Mira Flight Level shower tray incorporating a sleek and minimalist design, perfect for the wet room aesthetic.

3. Showerhead

Now this one’s by no means a necessity, but if you’re revamping your shower anyway and fancy going the whole shebang, why not update your showerhead to bring it in-line with your new luxury look?

You can get fittings for as little as £20, so it really is an inexpensive addition that can make all the difference to the end result.
