How to create a calming spa in your bathroom

Mira Inspired

Life can be hectic. It’s so easy to rush from one thing to another, our days turning into long checklists that leave no room to pause and collect our thoughts or just lie back, breathe and clear our minds. It’s more important than ever to make time to relax and unwind and there’s no better way to do that than turning your bathroom into your own little home spa. We’ve turned to Gabrielle, a fashion, lifestyle and travel blogger who knows a thing or two about relaxing, to get some pointers on how to turn your bathroom into a place of calming indulgence.

GABRIELLE – GLASS OF ICE

“Bathrooms present the perfect opportunity to create a calm and tranquil space, the kind of luxurious haven for well-deserved ‘me time’ while emptying your mind of the day’s thoughts – or preparing for the day ahead. Introduce music and fragrances or install flattering lighting and blinds, and the daily experience can instantly be enhanced!”

Lock the door
The relaxation begins here. It helps with compartmentalising by separating the bathroom from the rest of your home and the outside world. If you don’t live alone, it also prevents your peaceful bath or shower from being disturbed.

Breathe in
Candles are the quickest way to improve the ambience of a room. The flickering flames, pretty scents and attractive glass jars all go a long way towards setting the scene. Alternatively, oil diffusers are equally beautiful and less-demanding, ideal for positioning in the corner of a bathroom away from the shower. Some of the most relaxing fragrances include lavender, bergamot and jasmine. Personally, I find myself drawn to the indulgent scent of sandalwood.

Hydrate

Squeeze half a lemon into a tall glass of water, or drop a few slices of cucumber and mint leaves into the glass, and enjoy sips before and after showering to contribute to the sense of pampering.

Audio bliss

Playing music and opting for your favourite slow-tempo tunes while showering or bathing can be a great way to relax. After all, singing has been proven to have a multitude of positive mental and physical health benefits.

Accessorise

Invest in some luxurious bathroom accessories. Shower time can be transformed from a necessity into an indulgence via some simple bathroom swaps. Fluffy towels large enough to wrap around the body twice, venetian blinds and matching accessory sets (such as hammered-copper soap dishes, mirrors and baskets) all have the power to contribute a touch of luxury to the daily routine.

We hope these tips can help you find tranquility and an indulgent sense of peace that takes away the stresses of your day and puts a smile on your face. Tell us how you’d spoil yourself and unwind, whether it’s a luxurious deep bath or maybe personalising your experience with a Mira Mode digital shower.
