Wednesday 16th November 2016

An en-suite bathroom can be considered a luxury within most homes, however, it can become stressful to design, and especially when working with a small space and ensuring that it doesn’t impose onto your bedroom. With a few of our savvy techniques below, you will be enable to create a room that is not only practical but also shows your personality.

The first factor to consider when you are designing your en-suite bathroom is the layout of the room. The placement of the shower, toilet and sink as well as their shape and size can have a big impact on the functionality of the room. A frameless or semi-frameless shower enclosure will create the illusion of space as the frame is kept to a minimum, while a quadrant shape will cut off the sharp corner giving the room more available space. If you are trying to create a modern look then a Mira Shower walk-in enclosure paired with the Mira Flight Low Quadrant tray can bring that minimalist impression to the room as they are only 40mm high!

The use of colour is another important choice, as used carefully can create the illusion of a bright open space. The use of a block colour in the shower can create a feature area and allow for neutral tones to be used in the rest of the room. If you're reluctant for such a bold statement on your wall, why not take advice from the team at Dulux and give your bathroom a small hit of colour by updating your fixtures and accessories. Whether it is as big as having a coloured radiator or as small as a brightly coloured toothbrush holder, colour is a great way to show your individuality within the en-suite.

The type of lighting used in your bathroom has a greater impact than you might first think. The smallest of changes, such as replacing an outdated light fixture can influence the design of the whole room. You aren’t limited by lighting options either, there are multiple styles, shapes and sizes to choose from. The use of different features can also affect the ambiance of the room, for example light controls can enable you to dim or brighten up the space and the style of light bulb can enhance a contemporary or period look.
