Part G
Part G hits delays...
Those who were steeling themselves for the introduction of the new version of Part G of the Building Regulations this October can relax! Thanks to a last minute intervention via the European Union, any changes will now not be implemented until around April next year.
The legislation – originally due to launch on October 6th – was to see a new water efficiency standard for new builds of 125 litres of water per person per day rather than the current average of 150 litres. It was also proposed that baths in new homes should be fitted with a thermostatic device to ensure a maximum temperature from the outlet of 48°C.
A five-to-midnight challenge from the EU has stymied the legislation for the time being - with industry experts predicting that the matter will not be resolved before next spring.
At the time of writing it is as yet unknown which country has made a complaint – seemingly about a 'barrier to trade' - while (unofficially) we hear it concerns unvented heating systems, rather than water efficiency or safe hot water temperatures.
As a consequence, we have postponed publication of our innovative Grasping Part G Web- and podcast until we have some details of when the measures will be introduced.
