"Be open to learn and to take advice..."
We asked some of our female associates for the best advice they’ve been given for International Women's Day…
Lucy Whiteley
Marketing Executive
What is the best advice you have been given? Life is a marathon, not a sprint - the key is to keep going and have the courage to do so, even in the face of possible failure.
What advice would you give to others? Don't constantly look for the perfect end goal, just focus on doing your best and pushing forward, whilst making sure you enjoy the ride.
Kaska Ley
Financial Controller
What is the best advice you have been given? If you’re going to do something, do it well.
What advice would you give to others? Life is for living, enjoy every moment.
Lisa Maynard
National Account Manager
What is the best advice you have been given? Be kind and treat people as you would like to be treated.
What advice would you give to others? Believe in yourself and it’s good to look back on occasion to realise and appreciate how far you have come.
Dawn Kavanagh
Production Administrator
What is the best advice you have been given? Don’t try and deal with things I have no influence over, but to concentrate on the things I can make better – this was from an old manager of Kohler.
What advice would you give to others? Listen to others and learn from what they are telling you, don’t just think you know it all.

Katy Rogers (Business Director), Sarah Sadler (Finance Director) and Emma Foster (Marketing Director) - three members of our Executive Team.
Katy Rogers
Business Director
What is the best advice you have been given? To get over it and move on, show the world what you’re made of, show your best side. This is from my neighbour who used to be a senior accountant in the city - someone I wasn’t even looking for advice from.
Don’t dwell on things that have gone wrong, opportunities you’re overlooked for, promotions you deserved but haven’t got. Find a way to move forward, to show them what they’re missing, ask the questions of yourself, your team, your managers – what are the things you are missing, identify them and work on your blind spots!
What advice would you give to others? Be open to learn and to take advice. Everywhere. From anybody. Consider a different view and be prepared that to get what you want you have to self-reflect, seek a different perspective, change and take accountability for yourself.
Think about who you learn from and who inspires you, I’m lucky enough to have come for a line of strong, fabulous women who have made me who I am today and shown me that there are no boundaries to what you can achieve.
Claire Sweet
Associate Channel Manager
What is the best advice you have been given? Focus on yourself and ‘do you’. We are all different. Don’t worry what others are doing, we all have different strengths and areas to focus on, just be the best version of yourself.
What advice would you give to others? I know it is a total cliché but life is far too short. Always do what will make you happy.
Becky Burn
Senior HR Generalist
What is the best advice you have been given? Get comfortable feeling uncomfortable – this goes for work and personal. We often put a lot of pressure on ourselves to be perfect and we aren’t going to be the expert in everything or know the protocol in every social situation, but that’s okay, embrace being out of your comfort zone because it will happen more often than you think!
What advice would you give to others? Say YES (or may be just don’t find reasons to say no) – I think it can sometimes be easier to say no if there are unknowns, if self-doubt creeps in, or if something is happening too fast … However, I fully believe we should have confidence in ourselves, embrace new opportunities and to find more ways to say yes - learn as we go!
