Earlier this year, we were excited to welcome a new charity – charity:water – as one of our nominated charities for 2017. Since then, we have been sharing charity: water’s fantastic story with our associates via a 7 minute long virtual reality experience. This inspirational experience instantly captured the hearts of our entire business, and has been the catalyst for starting our fundraising activity.
In support of World Water Day – Wednesday 22nd March – we ran a whole host of water-related fundraising activities across the entire week. We kick-started with a Jerry Can race, which saw teams of associates from different departments compete in a relay involving transferring water from one Jerry can to another against the clock. Not only speed, but accuracy was also measured with the fastest winning team from Facilities and the least water spilled from Marketing.
Tuesday saw the return of the Kohler Mira Bake Off, but this time with a water theme. From the Cheltenham site, the winning entry was ‘Gracious Living’ featuring beautifully designed elephants in a bath tub! The runners up were a stylish Jerry Can cake and Duck Pond cake, complete with yellow icing ducks. And in Barnwood, another Jerry Can inspired cake took the trophy. A huge success, and all of the tasty remains were sold to raise yet more money!
To celebrate World Water Day itself, associates wore blue and donated £1. Despite the rather ironic wet weather, a very successful Wellie Throw also got underway in the morning; having retrieved both wellies from the roof at one point, the winning throw was an astonishing 24.6m.
Finally, our very own ‘Jerry’ the can made his way around the entire business whilst people filled him with their loose change. He even got dressed up along the way! We are still counting the pennies, but it’s been a fantastic result and effort from all across the business.
