It’s been a long, long day. You’re well and truly ready to wind down with a relaxing soak in the bath. You’ve earned it.

But what’s better than a tension-stripping timeout in the tub, we hear you wonder? Accompanying it with the perfect playlist, we answer.

If you want to take your next soak or shower to the next relaxation level, here are eight songs to add to your bath playlist.

1. Marconi Union - Weightless

Marconi Union is an English band and they actually teamed up with sound therapists to create this track, which is dubbed by some as the most relaxing song in the world.

In fact, according to a study, this tune is said to reduce stress levels by a very noticeable 65%.

2. Airstream - Electra

This one’s oozing with a chilled-out vibe. It has a tempo on par with the optimal resting heart rate (60 to 65 beats per minute), mid-range frequencies, and absolutely no bass, making it the perfect pick to ease your nervous system.

3. Adele - Someone Like You

Adele’s astounding vocals make for the perfect soundtrack to pretty much any setting, but this song in particular is a match made in bath-soaking heaven. According to the Wall Street Journal, it’s ‘sprinkled with ornamental notes similar to appoggiaturas’, which is scientifically proven to relax people.

4. DJ Shah - Mellomanic (chillout mix)

It’s mellow, it’s slightly sensual, and it’s got tropical feels. The repetitive nature of this DJ Shah song subliminally encourages the mind to switch off and feel the music instead of over-analysing it.

5. Enya - Watermark

If you’re familiar with Enya you’ll know “Only Time” is her classic, but “Watermark” is her go-to for winding down. The main reason for this is that within the chorus is a white-noise-generating synthesiser accompaniment, and white noise is proven to induce tranquility.

6. All Saints - Pure Shores

According to yoga gurus being simultaneously relaxed and alert is the ideal state, and “Pure shores” does just that. With a healthy balance between upbeat and serene, this song will transport you to a beach far, far away, and wash the day’s worries away in no time.

7. Coldplay - Strawberry Swing

Coldplay isn’t exactly known for churning out relaxing tunes, but this one certainly fits the criteria. Its soft instrumentals and gentle vocals work in harmony to melt whatever is on your mind, and if you fancy a bit of entertainment once you’re washed, the music video isn’t half bad either.

8. Toto - Africa

It’s racked up over 486 million views on YouTube. It’s growing in popularity on Spotify (despite being released in 1982). And scientists have jested it’s the best song ever to have been made. But that’s not why it’s made it to our list. Soothing, slow, and mellow, it’s got all the ingredients a song needs to help you switch off.
