What water supply do I have? - Mains pressure combination boiler

General FAQ

You will know you have this system if you have a boiler the size of a small kitchen cupboard somewhere in your house – you don't have hot and cold water tanks.

A combination boiler heats cold water directly from the cold mains supply, as soon as you turn on the shower or a hot tap in your home.

- The boiler is usually wall-mounted.

- You won't have a cold water tank (cistern) in your loft or a hot water tank (cylinder) in your airing cupboard.

- The water supply to the system is mains fed, which produces a forceful showering experience.

How do I turn the water off?

In the absence of local isolation valves, turning the main stop cock for the property off will turn off both the hot and cold water. If unsure, we recommend you seek advice from your local plumber or installer.

For a powerful showering experience, we recommend fitting a Mira digital or a Mira mixer shower to this type of system. Alternatively, for a more gentle flow rate, you could use one of Mira's electric showers fitted to the cold mains; this is also an ideal low-cost option for a second or en-suite shower room.
