Chromotherapy is trending. As we focus increasingly on wellness and self-care, colour therapy is changing how we decorate our homes. It’s well-accepted: colours reflect moods. So, why not spruce up your bathroom and boost your mood?

Discover which colours suit your moods and how to incorporate more into your bathroom and shower routine.

What is chromotherapy?

Chromotherapy, or colour therapy, uses colours to improve physical and mental well-being. It’s an alternative therapy that suggests that different colours affect our biology and psychology.

Benefits of chromotherapy

According to chromotherapy, colours can benefit our physical and mental health.  The proposed benefits of chromotherapy include the following:

  • Improved mood
  • Increased alertness
  • Better sleep
  • Reduced stress
  • Pain relief
  • Enhanced immunity
  • Stimulates the central nervous system

What do the colours mean in chromotherapy?

Chromotherapy believes we respond to different colours with certain moods and emotions. Here’s how each colour is used and the effects they’re said to have:

  • Red is invigorating and used to treat people who are feeling down.
  • Orange is stimulating and used to bring out joy and creativity.
  • Yellow is energising and is used to promote concentration.
  • Green is relaxing and used to bring out feelings of calm.
  • Blue is soothing and used to treat stress and anxiety.

How to add chromotherapy to your shower routine

Adding chromotherapy to your shower routine is a great way to brighten your bathroom and establish a certain mood. Transform your shower routine with a lick of paint and the flick of a switch.

Chromotherapy lighting

Adding colour-changing LED lightbulbs to your bathroom lets you practice chromotherapy while showering. With changeable lights, you can tailor the lighting to your mood. In the morning, you might choose an invigorating red; at night, a soothing blue.

Paint your bathroom

If you’re looking to redecorate, choosing a colour scheme based on chromotherapy may benefit your mood. If you shower in the morning, you might want to use bright colours (orange or yellow) to energise and kick-start your day. Or, if you shower at night, you might consider calming shades (blue or green) to help you relax and unwind.

Chromotherapy baths

Bathing is one of the best ways to de-stress at the end of the day. Some experts recommend 30 minutes of chromotherapy daily, so why not incorporate chromotherapy baths into your routine for a two-in-one? Light a candle, fill the tub with warm water and soothing scents and set your lights to a relaxing colour.

Spathrooms

There’s nothing like a self-care routine to help unwind before bed. If you’ve ever visited a spa, you’ll know the rejuvenating effects of a relaxing atmosphere and calming colour palette. So, why not create a wellness space in your bathroom and practice chromotherapy at home daily? Control the exact temperature of your shower with a Mira digital shower, and match the colour of your bathroom lights with the heat of your shower.
